About a year ago, the Drupal Association switched Drupal.org and all of its associated properties from HTTP to HTTPS secure. We did this to better protect our users and their data, but it had the unfortunate consequence of making it much more difficult, if not impossible, to trace outbound referral traffic from Drupal.org.
When people ask me, “What’s Drupal?” I find it a complex answer. Of course, in a technical sense, Drupal is a CMS— but to me, and to many others, it’s far more than that. It’s a community full of amazing people with inspiring leaders and huge hearts.
For me, going to DrupalCamp London was a bit like going home. After I joined the Drupal Association, DrupalCon London was the first Con I worked on from beginning to end, and it was where I was fully introduced to the incredible Drupal spirit. I built great friendships with so many wonderful community members, who gave up their free time to help make that event a success.
In 2014, The Drupal Association will launch new programs that serve the community and generate revenue to make Drupal.org a worthy home for the project. You can learn more about this focus in our February 2013 blog and our December 2013 blog about funding Drupal.org improvements.
Have you seen all the great things that are in store for Drupal.org next year? For example here are just a few mentioned in the 2014 Leadership Plan: a Drupal.org Tech Team to provide feature development, more servers and hardware to improve speed and security, and new persona-centric landing pages to grow Drupal adoption. It is going to be an awesome 2014!
It’s that time of year when companies are looking ahead to next year and budgets are being negotiated and finalized. With that in mind, we want to communicate the full menu of options for businesses interested in giving back to the Drupal project, and engaging with the community to share ideas and identify potential partners, customers and talent.
As you may have read, the Drupal Association is making several more hires over the coming months. And, this time we are hiring the Community Coordinator who has a singular focus - foster and support the community to help it thrive and do great things.
DrupalCons are designed to serve many types of community members through various tracks and special events. And, one group the event serves is the Drupal Business Owner, important because their companies provide community members with careers, they help grow Drupal adoption one client at a time, and they innovate the Project with their contributions. They also provide funding for camps and DrupalCons through their sponsorships.
This year, the Drupal Association has focused on better understanding our community so we can best serve all audiences. We so appreciate all of your input through the (many) surveys, interviews, DrupalCon BoFs, and other ways you shared your thoughts and ideas with us. We now have a nice list of new ways we can support you and are putting plans in place to deliver on them.
