The title roughly translates to "Oh, to once work with true professionals!"
This is something which I all too often have to think (and sometimes say aloud) when working on client projects. The nature of my work usually results in working for some kind of web agency which has secured a bigger Drupal project that they cannot handle alone. I then work with the agency's employees and other freelancers to complete whatever the project demands.
All too often, some of these coworkers turn out to be not quite the "experts." Often their Drupal skills are lacking (which is not that much of a problem since I am there), but usually there are other elements that make me think the above. Forgetting to mention an important part of a project to me until a few days before the launch was the latest incident.
How different was the Code Sprint in Paris that I was able to attend and participate in last week!
Gifted Drupal professionals working together towards a common goal: to implement Mark Boulton's redesign for drupal.org. The silence surrounding the main working area was almost eerie, only the soft klacking of keyboard keys was to be heard. And the occasional call for more coffee.
The difference in working attitude and efficiency was really compelling. I wonder why my client projects' work experience is not as great.
Maybe it is because the assembly of true professionals would have charged more than the value of a not-so-small car for the week's work.
And yet, nobody did get a single Euro, everything was donated by them and/ or their employers towards the common goal. And I managed to work with true professionals for once, for which I wish to sincerely thank everybody involved.
Here you can see the image we could see from one of the windows of the rented appartment, the Eiffel-Tower by night, brightly illuminated.
