Drupal.org downtime: survival stories

It’s been almost two weeks since the D7 upgrade deployment day. During all of that time we were heads down fixing follow up issues and working on stabilizing performance. Now is a good time to make a quick pause, and look back at how we actually survived the downtime!

Drupal.org D7 upgrade is live: next steps

As you know, the Drupal.org D7 upgrade went live last week. The deployment itself went as planned, without major complications. In the past few days however we are experiencing problems with the Drupal.org performance.

There are a few reasons for that:

If you are reading this announcement right now, then we did it! Drupal.org runs on Drupal 7! This was a big and complicated project, which took longer than we expected. But we are finally done!

Drupal.org downtime: 31st of October 2013, 15:00 UTC (08:00am PDT)

The Drupal.org D7 upgrade launch is confirmed. Today is Monday, 28th of October, we have 0 launch blocking issues and performance tests are looking fine. Therefore, we are going to launch on Thursday, October 31st, 2013.

Drupal.org Drupal 7 upgrade going live, prospective launch date and downtime

After a month-long Community QA, we are getting ready to deploy Drupal.org D7 upgrade. During the last couple of weeks we were limiting the number of ‘to-do before launch’ issues to those that are absolutely essential. Currently our launch blocker list consists of the 12 open issues.

We took a look at the upcoming Drupal events to find a quiet week, which won’t interfere with major camps and sprints, and..

Drupal.org Working Groups: September updates

The most important event of September was of course DrupalCon Prague. 10 out of 12 members of the Drupal.org Working Groups were there. We finally got to meet each other and work together in person! This means that we spent huge part of the week locked in a meeting room, but.. we had a great time and got a lot done.

Drupal.org Infrastructure team is looking for help

The Infrastructure team is a small group of volunteers, who manage Drupal.org servers and keep our website online. The amount of work is growing and the team is very small. With the current amount of people it is really hard to manage the Drupal.org infrastructure efficiently, and that is why growing the team is a top priority this year for the Drupal.org Infrastructure Working Group.

DrupalCon Prague is less than a week away! Here is a summary of Drupal.org-related activities waiting for you at the Con.

Drupal.org Working Groups

Almost all Working Group members will be present in Prague and the week will be pretty intense for them. There will be 3 public sessions, one for each Working Group. We call them "community conversations", the format is similar to core conversations, only we will be talking about Drupal.org.

August was a busy month for the Drupal.org Working Groups. Here are some of the things we've been up to.

Content Working Group

The Drupal.org Content Working Group is moving ahead with a project to develop several audience-specific landing pages for Drupal.org. The overall project plan is published in Drupal.org improvements group, as well as the details on the first step of the project - research. The work is organized via Drupal.org content project queue.
