Hey Matthew,

In 50 words or less, what will you bring to the board of the Drupal Association?

cheers
Donna

I bring 17 years from the technology world, 13 years in Opensource, 6 years of highly active participation in the Drupal community, 8 years of nonprofit management in a US based Technology focused nonprofit, two VP board positions in nonprofits including policy development, and two university qualifications - one a Masters - focused on organizational management for nonprofits.

I see a gap in our outreach to potential younger community members - I'd like to bridge that gap and focus on youth ambassadorship.

Got me thinking. Tell me more.

I wrote about the aging of our community a few weeks back. We are experiencing a pretty classic HR attrition which is typically solved by bringing in younger people to the project. We need to reverse the trend and reach out to and actively engage 20 somethings who are at the beginning of their IT careers to become members of the Opensource movement and specifically part of our special community.

We need to hook young folks who are making decisions in:

  • Highschool
  • Community College
  • University

Young energy brings a lot to a project like Drupal and helps energize the entire core of the community. This, in turn, encourages more people to enter into core contributions/take leadership roles in camps and cons/mentoring and so forth.
