Drupal.org 2015 Advertising Initiatives

I was hired by the Drupal Association in October 2014 to develop a new revenue stream from advertising on Drupal.org. For some time we’ve been trying to diversify revenue streams away from DrupalCon, both to make the Association more sustainable and to ensure that DrupalCons can serve community needs, not just our funding needs. We’ve introduced the Drupal Jobs program already and now, after conversations with the community, we want to put more work into Drupal.org advertising initiatives.

1 Million Users on Drupal.org!

If you have been on Drupal.org today, you may have noticed something interesting near the bottom of the page. At some point during the past 24 hours, the millionth user joined Drupal.org!

A New Way to Give Back to the Drupal Project

D.O homepage

Drupal.org, our community home, is so much more than a website. It’s the place that binds us all together. We go there to contribute to the Project, work together in groups and find important resources to do our jobs. Friendships are formed there while collaborating on modules or sharing tips and tricks. And, it’s where we best demonstrate our community values of do-ocracy and helping each other. Drupal.org is a global lifeline to the Project and to each other.

The Power of Community

I'm not going to lie  - sending out nearly a million emails announcing that you've had a security issue is no fun. Honestly, it's one of the worst things I have ever had to do in my professional life. It's true that cyber-crime is growing fast, and we are not the only organization to face this dilemma, but this isn't the kind of club membership you want to keep.

Looking for a Few New Site Builders

The Drupal Association is creating landing pages to better serve each persona that visits Drupal.org. You know...developers, CMS evaluators, job seekers, site administrators.

Drupal Association Launches New Supporting Partner Program

The Drupal Association is pleased to announce a new Supporting Partner Program to allow a company to invest in Drupal Association community initiatives that will significantly help the overall Drupal community. Examples include funding for Drupal.org improvements, including the recent sprint that started the upgrade process of Drupal.org to Drupal 7, and hiring a web development team to make improvements on Drupal.org for web developers, site builders and businesses.

Our Drupal.org Website Is Stepping Up To Drupal 7

There's a new initiative in the wind to upgrade our own Drupal.org site to version 7, and look out, its flying on its own!

Drupal.org Upgrade Sprint Kicks Off

Today at OSUOSL's offices in Portland, Oregon a sprint kicked off to upgrade Drupal.org to Drupal 7. This sprint is a major step forward, moving the infrastructure that we all use onto the latest version of our software. We are also laying the foundation for additional upgrades on Drupal.org so we can continue to make it an amazing place to collaborate. This is step one in a major plan for Drupal.org.

Help us define 2012 and the future of the Drupal Association

2011 was a big year for the Drupal Association. In our first year of staffed operations the Drupal Association was effective in a number of initiatives but didn't meet our expectations in others. It was a year of growth for us, as we learned how to navigate within and support the community and be an organization that is truly reflective of the community we support. Now with a year of learning behind us and a new governance structure we're looking forward to 2012.
