DrupalCon North America

There are three city proposals (Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Los Angeles), augmented by three company proposals (AIIM, O'Reilly, and Events Management). Options:

  • Philadelphia Option 1: Work with local community and rent a space like we always do, no corporate backing.
  • Philadelphia Option 2: Partner with AIIM, same as Boston. We get a venue, hotel blocks, and offset financial risk. Local community still helps "on the ground."
  • Washington DC: Work with local community with lots of event management experience, no corporate backing.
  • Los Angeles: Work with local community with lots of event management experience, no corporate backing.
  • O'Reilly: Would partially take over Drupalcon North America for the next 2 years. They would do advertisements, logistics, marketing, etc. and collaborate with the Association on session, cities, etc. They can do it in any location, including possibly in DC, LA, or Philadelphia (with or without AIIM -- there seems to be some sort of contention there).
  • Events Management: They are an events planning company and handle all planning, marketing, logistics, etc. for conferences. We could hire them to outsource some of the tough bit of the conference so we don't put undue burden on our communities.

Dries proposed having a non-binding vote for board members to get the general feel of where people were at in their thinking. Jacob confirmed that he would be summarizing the options this weekend in preparation of the "real" vote. Survey results: 1. Washington D.C proposal (Condorcet winner: wins contests with all other choices) 2. Tied: - Philadelphia proposal (with or without AIM) loses to Washington D.C proposal by 2-0 - O'Reilly proposal (with or without AIM, city to be determined) loses to Washington D.C proposal by 3-0 4. Los Angeles proposal loses to Washington D.C proposal by 2-0, loses to Philadelphia proposal (with or without AIM) by 2-0

Do It With Drupal

Jeff Robbins from Lullabot asked for permission to display "In coordination with the Drupal Association" on the website for the Do It With Drupal seminar. A summary of the subsequent mailing list discussion is at https://association.drupal.org/node/243, along with two voting items: one on how the Drupal Association plans to support (or not) this particular conference, and one on the Drupal Association's general policy around event endorsement. Survey results: 1. Allow use of a "sound byte" from the Drupal Association on the website. 2. Tied: - Allow the Drupal Association logo and "In Coordination with the Drupal Association" to be displayed on doitwithdrupal.com, and appoint an individual to act as a contact person. - Do nothing, but thank them for their donation to the Drupal Association. Following this, an official vote was held: VOTE: Do we accept "Allow use of a "sound byte" from the Drupal Association on the website" as the official answer? (ACCEPTED: 6 yes, 0 no)

Project Module Upgrade

The final topic was what to do about the Project module situation. Dries had written to a few developers asking for their input on next steps. Derek Wright, Adam Light, and Chad Philips responded providing a discounted cost, all of which approximated 15K. Survey results: 1. Pay $2k USD to receive a more detailed estimate 2. Accept their estimate and fund the $15k USD 3. Ask for a more detailed proposal before funding 4. Hire a developer to work on the upgrade and have him/her submit patches to the project module 5. Tied: - Publicly express our concerns and solicit input from the community - Requires more discussion -- postpone for now 7. Do nothing and wait for the Drupal community to upgrade project module A formal vote was held to confirm the results of the survey: Vote: Do we accept the recommendation to pay them up to $2k USD to make a detailed plan first? (Accepted 5 yes, 0 no, 0 abstain) The vote was accepted.
