socialmediaimageThe Drupal, DrupalCon and Drupal Association social media channels now have well over 100,000 followers and those follower counts keep growing every day. Obviously, social media is an important way for people to get information about Drupal and the various happenings in the Drupal community.

It’s also clear that there could be more transparency around how social media work gets done, including:

1. Who writes the posts on the social media accounts?
2. Is there any strategy behind what is posted on the channels?
3. How do I request to have something mentioned on the Drupal social media properties?

This post will shed some light on all three of those questions.

In the document located here, we have worked with community members who are well-versed in Drupal social media to collect some thoughts. The document briefly outlines social media objectives and the kinds of content that are most helpful and appropriate on the channels. It also includes a few guidelines for the people who actually do the updating. And finally, it lists the teams of people who currently do the updating on the social media channels. Feel free to provide any thoughts on this document below in the comments on this blog post. Once it is finalized, we will post it on Drupal.org.

And what about requesting to have something mentioned on Drupal social media properties? You can now do that via this form.

DrupalCon and Twitter

One particular social media challenge is communicating about multiple DrupalCons simultaneously (things like registration opening, call for sessions submissions, etc.). There will be some changes along those lines and you can expect to see a blog post discussing that tomorrow.
