Drupal Marketing Efforts

October 2011

Dries' DrupalCon London Keynote included a call to action to improve Drupal marketing. The community and Drupal Association are working together to answer that call. Here is a list of actions being taken:
  • Marketing Materials: Community-created promotional literature is now posted on BizConnect. There are four items -- "Top 10 Reasons to Choose Drupal" and "Drupal Adoption", in Letter and A4 sizes -- for each of the following vertical markets:
    • Education
    • Government
    • Publishing
    • Entertainment
    • High-tech...along with additional materials. They're unbranded and under the Creative Commons license, so use them however you like! To share your Drupal marketing materials with the community via Creative Commons, email them to megan@association.drupal.org.
  • Business Evaluator Marketing Events: Community groups held business evaluator events to educate potential end-users on why they should switch to Drupal. And, DrupalCon Denver will include a similar one day event called Drupal Means Business where business evaluators will pay $50 to enter the Sponsor Fair on Thursday, March 22nd to attend business sessions on the Day Stage and meet with sponsors. Contact megan@association.drupal.org to find out how to run a business event in your region. You'll be connected to experts in this area who are willing to share their best practices.
  • Advertising to Business Evaluators: Drupal Association is leveraging DrupalCon to make media trades with publications that reach this coveted audience. The ad's call to action: "Go to the Drupal Means Business web page and event to learn more about Drupal" (web page will have marketing materials and relevant links to Marketplace, Showcase/case studies, etc.).
  • Drupal at Industry Events: The community and Drupal Association recently had a Drupal booth at OSCON, which was provided for free. We hope to attend more industry events in 2012 such as CEBIT in Hanover, Germany (March 6 - 10) where Drupal can participate in an OS CMS "throw down". If your business is attending an event, you can easily promote Drupal, by bringing copies of the new marketing material on BizConnect.

Want to help improve Drupal Marketing? Get involved with other community members who are working on this initiative. The community especially needs a new lead to manage the case study forum. Contact megan@association.drupal.org for details.
