About Me:

I am Manjit, Sr. Frontend Developer at Zscaler. I have started the journey with Drupal Community since 2012. Drupal camp Delhi was my first camp from where i started and committed my first patch in Drupal core. It was a big achievement for me as a newbie.

After that, I started contributing into Drupal 8 core. Since then, I got involved in organising Drupal meetups, Drupal camps, Sprint mentoring in Delhi.
Later 2017, I moved to Goa, Southern part of India, where we organised the very first Drupal camp.

Other than organising meetups/camps, I’ve been a spokesperson at a lot many camps which were being organised in India.

Board meeting attendence:
none
Have you served on a board or committee?:
No
If so, tell us about it.:
n/a
What perspective will you bring to the board when discussing strategic topics?:
I have a technical background and I am involved in organising local meetups and camps in India. So I'll bring that community organiser experience as well as I will be able to understand and articulate the perspective of developers working with and contributing to Drupal.
What existing board topics are you most passionate about? and why?:
One of the most exciting topic that brings out my passion for Drupal is to "Promote Drupal & Build Sustainable Community". There are a lot of big organisations having some great developers who are using Drupal but are not yet an active contributor to the Drupal community. It could be the chance that they might not aware about it. So, to grow the community it's very important to focus on the growth of Drupal adoption and make those developers a pro-active contributor to the community.
What unique skills would you bring to the board?:
I personally know a lot of techs who have been a member of DA, so I’ve a very clear understanding of what all it needed and what more might been added to it. So, as I started my Drupal journey with core contributions and during this journey I’ve met a lot of people who are good at development but have never ever contributed to the community. And during the local camps in India, I always try to engage as many people into the contribution that they can make to empower the community. So, I personally want to boost as many people across the globe in adding some value to the community and add as many people to Drupal and ease out their Drupal journey. One of the approach that I personally follow to accomplish that is to train the new comers in the "Drupal in a day training". Other than this, I can help bring in a lot of strategic value and regional insights from Indian community which will be useful for us as a community. Because India is second highest contributor in Drupal as per Rachel's keynote in DrupalCamp Goa 2019 - https://www.drupal.org/association/blog/in-search-of-elephants I also have a good experience with session selection committee in Drupal camp Mumbai, DrupalCon Asia 2016, Drupalcon Amsterdam 2019.
How have your past contributions to Drupal prepared you for board candidacy?:
Various code and non code contributions i have made. -- D8 core Contribution - https://git.drupalcode.org/project/drupal/commits/8.8.x?utf8=%E2%9C%93&search=Manjit.Singh -- Frontend Track Chair in Drupalcon Asia 2016 - https://events.drupal.org/asia2016/team -- Speaker at DrupalCon Asia 2016 - https://events.drupal.org/asia2016/sessions/how-build-sustainable-contribution-culture-your-organisation -- Featured Speaker at Drupal Camp Pune 2017 - http://camp2017.drupalpune.org/ -- I have initiated and started the Drupal camp Goa in 2018. And as a first camp in Goa it was a huge success. I was helped as a Organiser in Drupal Camp Goa 2018 - https://groups.drupal.org/node/516314 (Unfortunately i am not in the list of organiser in groups.drupal.org) but you can see my involvement here http://www.gaurangagrawal.com/blog/drupalcamp-goa-an-adventurous-saga as a organiser in Drupal Camp Goa -- Core Organiser of Drupal Camp Mumbai 2018 - https://groups.drupal.org/node/518352 -- Presented a session in Drupal Camp Mumbai 2018 - http://2018.drupalmumbai.org/session/how-use-css-grids-today-real-world -- Subject matter expert in CWG from India - https://www.drupal.org/community/blog/community-working-group-update-november-2018 -- Core Organiser of Drupal Camp Goa 2019 - https://groups.drupal.org/node/534615 https://www.srijan.net/blog/drupal-camp-goa -- Organise Drupal Global Contribution Weekend, Goa 2019 - https://groups.drupal.org/node/534701 -- Organiser in Drupal Camp Delhi 2019 - https://groups.drupal.org/node/534984 -- Frontend Track Chair in DrupalCon Amsterdam 2019 - https://events.drupal.org/amsterdam2019/meet-team
Why should we vote for you?:
I will surely bring all the local Drupal initiatives / concerns / thoughts to wider level with best of my abilities. As a part of Drupal community, I always try to contribute as much as I can and your vote will definitely boost me and will bring out more out of me to serve the community at larger scale. Also, my efforts for the empowerment of the community completely justifies my candidacy. So please Vote now !!

As Dries stated in his Driesnote at DrupalCon Seattle 2019 (https://youtu.be/BNoCn6T9Xf8?t=2149), work on diversity & inclusion is a key priority of the project (https://youtu.be/BNoCn6T9Xf8?t=5793).
How can your knowledge or experience of diversity & inclusion help the Drupal Association meet Dries' call to action?

Thanks Rachel for your question.

As Dries mentioned in the keynote about the importance of Inclusion and Diverse community for any Open source software. And particular for Drupal where community is too diverse and vast with different culture, identities and backgrounds.

Lot of efforts and steps have already been take my Drupal association, like DA sponsor numerous local Drupal camps in the world so that people can get to know about this free open source software. Other than this, Grants and scholarships for those who are supporting and contributing to Drupal but they aren't able to come to Drupalcon's just due to lack of financial support. Tremendous efforts by Drupal association.

So as a part of Drupal community, I alway encourage people to contribute to Drupal. it's not only the developer who can contribute but anyone.
I have organised Drupal camp Goa where we had organised "Drupal in a day" training in which we had presented an introductory session to all the newbies who had attended that session. And it was good number of local people/students.
https://twitter.com/DrupalcampGoa/status/972693621794361345

we had also organised BOF session in Drupal camp Goa where we talked about "What stopping you to contribute". And the interesting part was that there were all kind of people in the discussion like devs, sales & marketing people and content editors.

And not only in Drupal perspective, but when you meet new people from other part, there are lot of things to learn from them. And it won't be possible if you don't diverse community.

And at last "Teams with diverse members make better products"

drupal.org done a lot in data modeling and database application development in drupal with very efficient way, but could you please promote drupal designing that developers or even initials to drupal can build good design through putting inline designing classes.

Hi Jeved,
Thanks for raising this concern. Drupal Community is also thinking in this way already. https://www.drupal.org/about/strategic-initiatives/admin-ui-js https://www.drupal.org/project/ideas/issues/2902399
Other than this "Out of the box initiative" is also there.

So these all were major step towards frontend and How frontend/UI is evolving in the market, it was even necessary.
