18-things-i-wish-were-true-about-plone
1) The plone community has a plone strategic summit, perhaps this is something the association should fund. I am working with Angie, Google and Joomla to have a similar event in April.
2) #6: Increased focus on a culture of systematic benchmarking and performance tuning. I personally feel the Drupal association should fund a performance lab for Drupal. There's at least 5 Drupal performance labs being built privately, and if we had one for Drupal 7 it would help.
3) #12: Increase efforts on plone.org
"The situation of plone.org is familiar to anyone that runs a successful company: Who has time to update and improve the company web site when business is doing so well? The same goes for the plone.org web site — most of our developers and integrators are busy and happy working on client projects. However, without a major facelift for our communal property, we aren’t doing Plone real justice.
* Performance tuning
* More functionality for community input
* Identify documentation leaders
* OpenID support everywhere - more casual users logging in with their Yahoo and Google id's to report bugs
* Sell Plone better
* Make it easy to translate web site content"
That sounds really familiar ;-)
4) #14: Realize that web publishing isn’t our main arena
:-)
5) #17: "Recommended apps" tier
* Similarly Drupal should have more investment in distributions
6) #18: Stay hungry/foolish - If the Drupal community had a more sophisticated revision control system, we could have more visible experimental branching of Drupal core, of critical modules like project, and views. The association should look into funding infrastructure that leads to more experimentation.
Once again, the Plone community does an excellent job communicating, to the benefit of the Drupal community.
Cheers,
Kieran
